This year we celebrated the day of love, ie Valentine’s Day, at the place we love (Disney)! Epcot was the park we visited (we’ve spent a TON of holidays at this particular park this past year… Easter and NYE).
We had Fast Passes for Frozen, so as soon as we entered the park we headed straight towards Norway. After the ride, we made our way to the Mexico Pavilion for dinner. We had reservations at San Angel Inn. I’d never eaten there (Eric had years ago when he was kid), so it definitely was a place we wanted to visit together. For those that don’t know, San Angel Inn is a Mexican restaurant located inside the Mexico Pavilion, right next to the Gran Fiesta Tour ride (the ride actually takes you right past the restaurant).
There was a bit of a wait before we were seated, we speculated due to the holiday (the park did seem a bit busier than normal). We asked for a water view, but were told it would be an additional hour and a half wait! We opted to pass on the direct water view, which actually worked out because we were seated just a few tables away, with a pretty decent view of the ride and volcano.
What is so amazing about this dining spot is the theme! From the moment you step inside the pavilion, you feel as though you have been transported to to Mexico. The architecture and lighting really help set the mood. The lights are dim so it appears to be night time all the time (even in the day) which really helps set a romantic atmosphere.
We both got a margarita to drink (when in Rome, er Mexico)! I got the Wild One (Tequila, ginger liqueur, passion fruit and mango purée, fresh lime juice and served on the rocks with black ant salt rim) and Eric got the Blood Orange (Tequila, orange liqueur, earthy sweet-tart mix of blood orange and served on the rocks with Tajín chili powder rim). Both were super yummy!
Before Dinner, they brought us some chips and salsa, which we munched on as we chatted and soaked up the ambiance.
I ordered the Chille Rellano (poblano pepper stuffed with pulled pork, pine nuts, and almonds topped with roasted tomato sauce and served with a side of rice) and thought that it was super tasty. I wondered about the pine nuts, but they definitely gave the dish dimension.
Eric ordered the Tacos al Pastor (pastor-marinated grilled pork served with roasted pineapple, white onions, cilantro, and salsa verde accompanied by black beans, esquites, and corn tortillas). He substituted the black for rice because he doesn’t like beans. He really enjoyed his meal and thought the flavors were great.
We skipped desert because I really wanted a Mickey bar! So after our meal, we hopped on a boat and road the Gran Fiesta Tour, then on our way out of the park, we got his and her Mickey bars (BEST way to end the night)!
Overall, we had an amazing Valentine’s Day date night at Epcot. We both loved our experience at San Angel Inn and will definitely be visiting again!
