10 Tips for a Perfect Dapper Day

Dapper Day at Disney is such a fun event! You get to dress up in fancy duds while visiting one of the theme parks! We’ve attended two events, both were the Spring Epcot outings  (We’re really hoping to make it to a Dapper Day event at one of the other parks in the fall).

If the thought of attending a Dapper Day event totally stresses you out (mainly: what to wear and where to get the clothes/accessories), then this guide is for you! I will share 10 super helpful tips that will ensure you have a perfect Dapper Day!

1. Plan in Advance - You will want to plan what you’re going to wear far enough in advance so that you have time to gather all needed items (ie accessories)!

2. Disney Bound! - You do not have to dress like a Disney character, but it’s SO much fun to do so! This is even more true when you’re in a group! Plus, everyone always has such a good time spotting the various dapper bound characters!

3. Pinterest! - if you have absolutely no idea what to wear, search Pinterest for inspiration. I have two boards on Pinterest devoted to Disney Bounding and Dapper Day ideas (follow me and check them out for yourself)!

4. Check Your Closet First - I’ve been able to use quite a few items Eric and I already had. My crinoline was from Halloween, Eric’s shirts are usually dress shirts he has already owned. The shoes I wore last year were super cute retro looking tan heels…. You’d never know that they’d been sitting in my closet for years (waiting to be worn again)! My pink sunnies from this year’s Dapper Day were sunglasses I have had for years (no lie, probably over 10)!

5.Buy Key Pieces You Can Wear Again (and Again)! - I try and find items that can do double duty. Last year’s basic blue skirt… you better believe I will be re-wearing that in the future! The denim button up from my Fix-It Felix Jr outfit has been reworn quite a few times by me since it made its debut last spring.

6. Amazon is Your Friend! - I buy a ton of our accessories for Dapper Day on Amazon! Tights, shoes, ties, scarves, suspenders, socks…. You name, and chances are you can probably find it on Amazon! Besides the variety, prices are usually pretty low and shipping is very fast!

7. Broaden Your Horizons - Don’t be afraid to look at big box stores or unlikely retailers. That chambray top I mentioned earlier? I bought that at Old Navy! My green lace dress from this year? I found that at Lulu’s (one of my fave go-to sites for fun contemporary dresses… not the type of destination you’d expect to find retro focused fashions, but while scrolling the site I found the perfect dress for my Disgust dapper day bound).

8. Dress for the Weather - If it’s a spring event in Florida… chances are, it’s going to be hot! Keep weather in mind when you determine what to wear. A flowy dress might be perfect for a warm spring day… whereas tights or pants might be better suited for a chilly fall afternoon. You want to be comfortable, so keep weather in mind. This past Dapper Day was HOT! I wore a cardigan over my dress (why? Because fashion! And my dress had very thin straps and I felt more comfortable covering up a bit). I COULD have taken the cardi off, or unbuttoned it, but I didn’t. I was determined to stay in my Disgust bound all day!

9. Don’t Stress It - Dapper Day can be stressful! Trying to figure out what to wear and where to get items can be nerve-wrecking… especially if it’s your first dapper event! There are no exact rules/guidelines, so you can go dressed as fancy or retro as you want. Some guests go all out, which is so awesome to see in the park! Some people have props and wigs and very elaborate getups… but you do not have to do this! Get as dolled up as you feel comfortable

1o. Have Fun! - Dapper Day is such a fun time to be seen and to people watch! Everyone is usually VERY nice and friendly, so you will probably make some new friends too!

Dapper Day is such a good time! If you get the opportunity to attend an event… DO IT!!! You will not regret it! Hope you found these tips/tricks helpful.
